Contact Era History

The contact era is defined as Indigenous history after the arrival of Europeans. In Wayne County, Indigenous people arrived in the mid-1700s, while white settlers arrived in the early 1800s. This section explores the tribes that lived in this area, such as the Wyandotte, Shawnee, and Delaware, their lives in Wayne County, why they were removed, and what happened to them afterward.
